What is Guitar Technique?

You hear about good guitar technique all the time, but what exactly does that mean? This video explains what technique is and gives examples of some of the most common guitar techniques that all beginners should know. (See below)


A breakdown of common guitar techniques:

1. Fret-hand techniques:

• Basic technique

• Scale technique

• Chord technique

• Articulation techniques


2. Picking-hand techniques:

  • Holding the pick
  • Basic picking technique
  • Alternate picking
  • Economy picking
  • Sweep picking
  • Fingerpicking (subset: accompaniment, classical guitar style, Spanish guitar styles, Travis picking, chord-melody techniques, etc.)
