Remove the guesswork. Know your fretboard. Master reading and playing guitar music in the 9th position.

Many guitar methods touch on note reading in the open position, but that’s where it ends. This leaves most guitarists having to figure out the rest of the fretboard on their own, which can be tedious, time-consuming, and downright frustrating. But not anymore.

Unlock your musicianship

The Missing Method for Guitar Note Reading Series is designed exclusively to teach you to master your fretboard. And this, the third book in the note reading series, is your guide to mastering note reading in the middle of the neck, the region with some of the richest tones, and the power to take your sound, your skills, and your understanding of guitar music to the next level.

Discover the Power of Note Reading

Like all Missing Method books, when we say “mastery,” we mean it. With ample instructions, illustrations, and practice, when you’ve finished the book, you will know:
  • How to read notes in the upper region of the neck (Frets 9-13), in every key
  • How to read in minor keys, including relative minor, melodic, harmonic, and jazz-melodic minors

Solidify Your Skills

Missing Method books are designed to develop mastery in a particular skill. To that end, in this book you you will also:
  • Review open and 5th positions
  • Solidify your rhythm skills
  • Practice and Play in every key
  • Learn scales in every key while you learn the neck
  • Learn more guitar music theory
  • Know how to hone your sight reading skills
🎵 And of course, you’ll get free access to streaming audio files so you can hear each practice song and exercise.

Guided Lessons on Your Schedule

Over the past 20 years, Christian J. Triola has taught hundreds of students to play guitar. What people are saying

Artboard 1

Finally a book that shows you how to play up the neck, rather than just telling you to practice your scales.

Much needed series! Very happy with the ground covered; for students usually left to their own devices in finding useful upper position music to practice.

I've used books 2, 3, and 4 in the series and they were quite good. They are unique, in my experience, in that they go about learning the fretboard and theory by breaking the fretboard into segments, This makes it much more systematic and logical. I only wish there were more songs and exercises to play. This is the only method I've used that came close to teaching me what I need to learn!

Artboard 1

This is the book I've waited for for over 40 years. For years I've taught myself guitar by ear always wanting to know what notes I was playing and how best to learn them. I've purchased probably every book on the market hoping to have that dream realized. Unfortunately most were either too mundane, too complex or too boring to hold my attention for very long. Recently I stumbled upon Christian's series of books and after reviewing the contents I knew I had found what I had been searching for all these years. These books eliminate all the unnecessary fillers and cut right to the chase. Everything is presented in an easy to follow format that allows you to go at your own pace precisely and with clarity. I know this series will get me to my goal of mastering the fingerboard. I'm so convinced of that fact that I purchased the complete series of 5 books at one time covering the entire fingerboard. I'm now motivated and looking forward to my journey towards musical excellence.
